TPM and 8 Wastes

TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) is a holistic approach to equipment maintenance that strives to achieve perfect production

The 5S Principles are effective tools for reducing waste, improving quality, increasing efficiency, promoting safety and encouraging continuous improvement.

When applying 5S Methods you should always remember the various forms which waste can take:

  1. (D) Defects and non-conforming parts or assemblies
  2. (O) Overproduction
  3. (W) Waiting time and resources
  4. (N) Non utilized or Untapped Employee Creativity (potential)
  5. (T) Transportation
  6. (I) Inventory
  7. (M) Motion
  8. (E) Extra Processing – Inappropriate or Non Value Added Processing
